Bobcat Bulletin 1/13/23

School News:

This coming Monday there will be no school. Monday January 16 is a federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. There are many ways to recognize the legacy of Dr. King, from volunteering, to engaging in constructive actions to address social justice and equity, to learning more about this dynamic individual who so eloquently and strongly challenged and advocated. We have been talking about Dr. King in some of our classrooms. This holiday could serve as a prompt for similar discussions at home: What might Dr. King challenge in our nation today? For what might he advocate? What might we be inspired to do as individuals to honor Dr. King? Ask your child what they know about MLK and share your own understandings-- or choose to learn more together. We work to integrate learning and dialogue about social justice, and injustice, and equity throughout our curriculum and also feel it important to pause and recognize this influential, inspirational American.

Dear HUUSD Students and Staff,

Please fill the form below to the best of your knowledge using your own words.

I will be participating in the Child Nutrition Day at the State House. While there I will be advocating for school meals to continue to be free for all Vermont Students.

My plan is to use some of your comments in the materials I will be bringing to share with Legislators. Please note I will not share your names with them.

Quotes might look like this (examples only):
"I love school meals" 9th grade student at Harwood High School
"My students are enjoying school meals this year" Teacher at Brookside Primary School

Thank you in advance for filling this survey. Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Erika Dolan
School Food & Nutrition Co-Director

PTO Updates

Hi families:

We need your help!

The PTO is hoping to increase parent engagement as we continue to grow and change as an organization. As we now are back to a more involved pace of life we hope to create more community, fun and joy at Moretown school for all community members. The PTO not only provides funding for school events like the awesome Troy Wunderle’s Circus and the winter ski program, but it can be a great way for families to come together and get to know each other through activities like walk to school day and the Halloween Party.

The PTO is looking to increase our leadership team with more volunteers, visionaries and 4 new officers. We are hoping to not only add families to our hands on helpers for community events but also to fill the positions of president, vice president, treasurer and secretary by the beginning of May. If you are interested in taking on a leadership role, please contact moretownpto@gmail.com so we can give you a more detailed job description for any of these roles. We would love to talk with you and get to know you so feel free to text or call Melanie Grubman 802-503-9774

With the goal of continuing to create Moretown school as a community hub for our great town, we want to collect some information using the attached survey to see what kind of events, and community experience your family may enjoy. We truly hope to hear back from you and work alongside you to create a wonderful place for our children in this beautiful valley.
Regardless of your availability, please take 5 minutes to fill out this survey!
