School News:
Marathon KITS this week

VTCAP Testing for grades 3-6.  Please see this letter for more information.

Trevor Jewett completed his  6-week residency here at Moretown School.  Thanks Trevor!

During the month of May we will be encouraging walking to school to reduce pollution and to encourage students to be active. The main event will be taking place on Wednesay May 10th.  During our event we will have one main drop off location at the Moretown Store. You may drive around the side entrance and drop your kids off at the handicap ramp at the end of the buiding.  Plese do not let your kids off in the main parking lot.   Staff will accompany the students on their walk and parents are welcome to join!  There will be snacks, stickers and hopefully music.

In addition,  the school will be running a competition among classes to see who will get the infamous Muddy Boot Award!  Students will receive punchcards that will be stamped by nurse Phil if they walk or bike to school between May 10- May 31st!
The class with the most punches wins!  May is a great time to park at the store and walk your kids to school or join up with an organized group and take the trail to school from South Hill.

If you would like to help lead a bike ride, a walk from South Hill or play music in our parade on Wednesday May 10th email Melnaie Grubman ( mom of Judah 8 and Ezra 10) bikingmelanie@gmail.com

with the students from grades pre-k to 6th, which will be hung at the Moretown Elementary School building. The workshop will take place at the school during the art classes over a two week period, a total of 8 classes each week.

TWO Art Shows!

This week at ECO

Kindergarten Mud Day was a success!

STAFF SPOTLIGHTS:

We have a couple folks who retired, but could not stay away! Ms. Baker is one of those people. She has been teaching here at MES for 29 years. She LOVES teaching reading the most! Many students have benefited from her love of teaching. She remembers her first students fondly. Her favorite school lunch is cheesy dunkers.

When she is not at MES one thing she really enjoys is paddle boarding. Her favorite snack food is crunchy cheetos. She is a big fan of traveling. One place she’d love to visit is Greece. Her favorite animal is a giraffe and her favorite holiday is Christmas. She loves the color teal and also makes art. We’re so glad that Ms. Baker unretired to be with us this year!

Do you know who has worked at Moretown School for 39 years? It’s Ms. H, and she still remembers students from those first years!! For many years Ms. Hartshorn taught 1st and 2nd grade with her teaching partner Ms. Orr. The thing she loves most about teaching is being with kids and witnessing them have “a-ha” moments. Her favorite animal is the goldfinch (also her ECO name) and she’s a fan of tigers as well. Her favorite pet ever was a cat named Taffy. Her favorite game is UNO Attack, which I bet she loves playing with her two grandsons. A little more about Ms. H; she loves the color blue, breakfast of lunch here at Moretown, and her favorite holiday to celebrate is Juneteenth. How fortunate are we that Ms. H loves this place so much?

Who teaches music to more than 400 students in the valley? Mr. Hill, that’s who! Mr. Hill shared about himself recently, and here are some things to know. His favorite unit to teach in music is the material for the spring concert. His favorite thing about teaching is the students! His favorite school lunch is tacos. And if you were wondering what his favorite type of music is, well, it’s Jazz!

Outside of school, he is an accomplished musician who plays Jazz. When he is not teaching, he most loves playing with his family. His favorite animal is his dog and his favorite color is purple. His favorite snack food is licorice. And did you know that he donated a kidney to help a family member? We’re glad to have Mr. Hill here at Moretown to teach us all music!

Did you know that our nurse sees 100 PERCENT of the kids in the school almost daily!!!

Yea 100 PERCENT and why does our nurse see 100 percent, he stands at the front door and gives fist bumps to people that walk in. Our nurse’s name is Phil Stolz. Phil is 52 years old. He grew up in South Dakota and went to college at Norwich university, to become a nurse in 2015. Before that Phil was an eye care technician from 2002-2015, and BEFORE THAT he was a boatswain mate in the military. Phil was in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1994-2002. Phil became a nurse because he can help people and many other things.

Phil teaches at the community college of Vermont. He teaches phlebotomy, introduction to healthcare and medical ethics. Phlebotomy is the mastery of blood draw.

Now you know about our nurse Phil and how many things he does thanks for reading!

Do you know Ally Shea, your kids' gym / physical education teacher?

She has been a P.E. teacher at Moretown for about 8 years, she said she has always loved working with kids and always thought being a P.E teacher was a neat job for her interests. She went to college at JSC (Johnson state college) which is now named NVU (Northern vermont university)for her degree. Her favorite game to teach is survivor, and for anyone who doesn’t know what survivor is your child would either be on team BOB or team CAT, and there would be a series of challenges where you get points if your team wins and at the end of survivor she would then add up the points and one team will win!

Ms. Ally has 1 kid that is 1 ½ years old and another on the way, along with a dog named Sabre and a cat named Phoebe. Something she enjoys doing in her free time is pottery! She said in the interview that she learned pottery highschool and continued to take classes every so often after she graduated high school. I asked her what her favorite healthy food to eat was and she answered with something i’ve actually never heard of, which are Thai peanut bowls and she also said they had lots of veggies! I’m definitely going to try that sometime. Another question I had asked her was what her favorite unhealthy food was. She said Strawberry shortcake, yummy! She is a great P.E teacher and we love having her here to teach us!
