Greetings from Moretown School,
As a young child, my absolute favorite smell was the waft of waxy goodness when I opened a new box of crayons. I still feel a sense of excitement when I smell that smell. The little box (or big box if I was really lucky) was a box of whole new beginnings- new creations, new colors, new drawings, new activities.
As I reflect on my excitement for tomorrow, I am filled with many of the same feelings. Something new is starting, and what an adventure it is sure to be.
I hope you all had a chance to read my Welcome Letter today, I have added it to the link above as well for further reference as it contains many links within it.
I have a few more important pieces of information to share with you on this first day eve:
- Other business:
- Normally, I will be sending blog posts out on Fridays. I gave myself a little more time this week so as not to have to send out more than one.
- School notes:
- Ally Bataille, our Health and PE teacher has asked me to send out a Bataille Bulletin (that name might not stick):
- Please make sure your child(ren) have sneakers for school. This will ensure their readiness for PE classes, but also may increase activity and healthy habits.
- If you have extra sneakers, outgrown or otherwise, at home that you don't need anymore, Ally is happy to collect them for use at school.
- On time arrival is so important for your child(ren) to have a full day of learning and connecting. Please plan to have your child(ren) no later than 7:40am.
- Calendar updates
- Please mark your calendar for The Moretown School Open House that will be held on Wednesday October 3, 2018 at 5:30pm.
- PTO
- The PTO is up and running. Please see this website for PTO information which will be updated as we go. The PTO notes are current on this page.
- BUS
- Bus routes have been published on the HUUSD website (and are current above). Moretown will have 3 bus routes this year- bus #19, #20 and #21.
- Please complete this form if you haven't already to confirm where your child goes after school.
- Community
- Morefest is almost here. Come join us on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
- As many of you know there is a vacancy on the HUUSD Schoolboard, and they are in need of representation from Moretown.
The HUUSD Board is looking for interested community members willing to serve as a Moretown representative to the board from the date of appointment expected to be September 19, 2018, until Town Meeting Day in March 2019. At Town Meeting in March 2019, Moretown will elect a member to fill the unexpired term through March 2021.
All interested parties should submit a written letter of interest, stating reason they would like to serveand what experience and skills they may bring to the board, to the HUUSD Board Chair, ChristineSullivan, at csullivan@wwsu.org and to Superintendent Brigid Nease at bnease@wwsu.org no later than close of day on Monday, September 10 th .
- Community Engagement: see below
- Aug 29 Event - Public Voice in School Governance
- How should the public be involved in school board decision-making? How do we make one community out of six towns? How can the school board find out what the community feels about any given topic — now and into the future?
- The school board has recently hired consultants* to help answer these questions and more. Our first step is a one-hour kick-off conversation on August 29th in the Harwood Library at 6pm. Pizza and childcare will be provided.
- The 6pm event is designated specifically for the consultants to hear from the public about their hopes, dreams, concerns, and expectations for community engagement with the school board. After a short break, the consultants will have a similar session with school board members. Public is welcome to stay to observe that session as well.
- If you are a parent, taxpayer, business owner, grandparent, or resident in any of our 6 towns, your voice is important! Please come and share your thoughts and help us move forward as thoughtfully as we can.
- *If you’d like to find out more about the consultants, link here to their bios: Sue McCormack of Everyday Democracy (https://www.everyday-democracy.org/about/staff/susan-mccormack) and Matt Leighninger of Public Agenda (https://www.publicagenda.org/pages/matt-leighninger).
That's it for today.
Have a wonderful evening and first week of school!
Best,
Mandy Couturier
