Dear Mad River Youth Lacrosse Parents,
Registration is now open for the 2019 Spring Lacrosse Season @ www.madriverlax.com

We have had a few issues again this year with registration via our website, but please give it another shot and let us know if you have any questions. As a reminder, here are the details for the 2019 Lacrosse season.

Mad River Valley Youth Lacrosse will offer both girls and boys lacrosse again this year. There are three separate grade levels including 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, and 7th-8th. Equipment will be provided for 3rd-4th-grade players as supplies allow. We will also offer a Sunday morning program for 1st-2nd-grade boys and girls that we call “Chill Lax.” First timers are welcome at every level.

Registering at www.madriverlax.com as early as possible is highly recommended, as teams often fill to capacity. Player space is open on a first-come, first-serve basis. Team assignments will be provided by March 1, 2019. Coaches encourage athletes who might play other spring sports to try lacrosse. Our season is short and we try our best to accommodate other spring sports schedules.

Official outdoor practices are held at Mad River Park, beginning in Mid April, while pre-season indoor sessions may be scheduled by team coaches. Games will be held from the first week of May through mid-June.

Founded in 2008, Mad River Valley Youth Lacrosse is a community-based, volunteer, non-profit recreational organization. Mad River Valley Youth Lacrosse is a developmental organization and is committed to providing a positive, team-oriented athletic experience. Mad River Valley Youth Lacrosse is affiliated with the Northern Vermont Youth Lacrosse League (Boys), and the Northern Vermont Girls Youth Lacrosse League. Coaches complete required certification through US Lacrosse, and player insurance is provided through US Lacrosse.

Notes from the Health Office :
Well, The Flu has officially arrived at our Moretown school. We had hoped to make it to February Break, but alas we didn’t. So, here’s a reminder of all the practices that we know help to reduce spread. Hand washing of course can not be overrated but also there’s reinforcing with your children to turn and cover coughs and sneezes, throw used kleenex away, and frequent wiping of commonly used surfaces including the often forgotten door knobs, faucets and toilet handles. All of these should be followed by handwashing. We know that it sometimes feels like an impossible task especially with our young ones, but it’s worth the effort and helps build awareness about the importance of keeping body fluids to ourselves as much as we can. If we all work together, hopefully we can minimize the spread.
Remember that our school policy regarding fever states that a child must be fever free -below 100* for 24 hours without the use of either Ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin or Acetaminophen/Tylenol. This means if your child goes to bed with a fever, even if has no fever in the morning, they should be kept home in order to ensure the 24 hour fever free policy. I know that this may seem unnecessary, but as we all know, our temperatures are lowest in the morning but then can climb throughout the day. As long as there’s a fever, there is the possibility of a child being contagious. Also this child is more vulnerable to other illnesses or worsening symptoms.
Below I’ve attached the Decision Tree put out by Central Vermont Medical Center to help answer questions about Flu versus Cold virus.
Hope you and your family stay well,
Jean Andreson
School Nurse

Girls Lacrosse—New This Spring!
Harwood Youth Lacrosse (HYL) is starting a girls program this year!  We are looking for girls who are interested in trying a new sport. If you are unfamiliar with girls lacrosse here is a good video that introduces the game and the positions.  This video was made by a team in Ohio so please ignore any location based information.

Harwood Youth Lacrosse Registration Now Open for Boys and Girls:
Harwood Youth Lacrosse has teams at the 3rd-4th, 5th-6th and 7th-8th grade levels for both boys and girls.  The teams practice a few times a week beginning in late March/early April, and games with other NVTYLL (Northern VT Youth Lacrosse League) teams are played on weekends after April vacation, primarily in May and early June.  HYL emphasizes player development with the primary goal of teaching local players how to play and enjoy the sport of lacrosse.
To register, go to www.harwoodyouthlacrosse.org. Financial aid is available at all levels and there is free loaner equipment at the 3/4 level. Please feel free to contact us via info@harwoodyouthlacrosse.org with any questions.  Interested coaches and volunteers are encouraged to touch base as well. Crafting beautiful handmade cards for Malayka House Fundraiser:

Ms. Hopper and Mrs. Dow's class working together on cards for Malayka House

To Uganda with Love….
Malayaka House, located in Entebbe, Uganda, is an orphan home for over 40 children ages 6 months to 19 years old.  Over the past five years, Sara Baker, our learning specialist, has been traveling to Malayaka House as their volunteer educational consultant and has introduced our students to these wonderful, joyful children who are living in a very different context.  As an outgrowth of this experience, the children at Moretown School will be creating beautiful, hand printed and painted all-occasion cards to help raise money for the care and education of these children. All contributions are tax deductible. Please make checks  out directly to Malayaka House. It is OK to send cash too – we will collect and write one check. Cards will be delivered no later than Friday, February 8th so that you will have them for Valentine’s Day.
Each $10 donation will receive, as a thank you gift, a package of 5  cards – the cards will be decorated with beautiful children’s artwork which can be used for many reasons – thank you cards, get well soon cards and even for Valentine's Day!   Each card will come with an envelope and a label on the back indicating that it was purchased in support of the children of Malayaka House. Thank you in advance for your generosity – if you have questions or would like more information about Malayaka House, feel free to contact Ms. Baker - sbaker@wwsu.org or check out Malayaka House’s website -  www.malayakahouse.com
