Reminder from the Health Office

When your child is sent home from the school with an 

illness, please be mindful of our wellness policy.  

The policy states that before returning to school your child 

must be:

*Fever Free for 24 hours

*No vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours

*If antibiotic prescribed, must have take for 24 hours 

Even if your child still does not fell well enough to attend school

we recommend given them another day of rest at home. 

Thank you in advance for keeping all our children

healthy here at the Moretown School!

Free Ski Day for Students! Darryl Mays, parent and community member, has partnered with Win Smith, Sugarbush Resort, to provide a free day of skiing for all area students at Sugarbush North this Friday, December 23. Enrollment lists will be sent to the ticket booth at Sugarbush North.

Vacation Camps in Waterbury My name is Deb Fowler and I am the new Recreation Director for the Town of Waterbury. We are adding a lot of new programs to round out our summer programs and I was wondering if you would be able to add a couple to your announcement section. We are adding 3 Vacation Camps, The first one is Dec 27 to Dec 30, the second one is Feb. 27 to Mar. 3 and the last one is Apr. 17 to Apr. 21. Each camp is $175 per child/non resident with a maximum of 30 kids. Also we are hosting a kids day out on Dec. 10 from 1 to 6pm. This is to give parents time to finish getting ready for the holidays and give the chance for the kids to play, do crafts and meet new friends. It is $25 per child/non resident and is a limited space of 25 kids. All of these programs are going to be held at the Recreation Building in Waterbury for kids in grade K to 6 and staffed by the well trained Day Camp Staff. Moretown School Update December 16, 2016

What is going on with the new paint? 

The answer:  The Moretown School received a 

Vermont Rural Partnership Grant 

that supports a redesign and upgrade 

of our multipurpose room/cafeteria

The VRP grant supports student, 

community and school partnerships that support 

project based learning opportunities.  Our project, 

entitled the "Living Cafe" will encompass four new aspects;

(1) New vibrant/warm paint overseen by our local 

house painting expert Gary Butler (thank you Gary!) 

(2) Trout in the Classroom project where 

students will support a living hatchery for 

Brook Trout (we will get 200 eggs on Jan 6) We have partnered 

with Shawn Nailer, a VT trout expert and program coordinator 

for TIC (Trout in the classroom)  

(3) A pallet garden wall  (3 pallets) for all classes in the school 

supported by the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters

engineering dept. 

(4) A belt/gear/bicycle operated STEM project supported

by the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters engineering dept. 

We hope all of our projects will be completed by the beginning

of May.

Hello Moretown School Families, 

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Thanks to all of you who purchased Moretown Bobcats shirts. Unfortunately there has been a slight delay in getting the shirts to us. Orders will be delivered to Moretown School next Tuesday, 12/20. Our hope is to distribute them to students that day. Orders will be in labeled plastic bags. 

Some parents have requested that we set their order aside. Those will be available for pick up in the main office. If you would like us to hold your order and you have not told me already, please let me know.

Toys for Children     Toys will be available at the Mad River Valley Food Shelf for children of families in the Mad River Valley that need a little extra help at this time of year. Please visit the toy room in the basement of Evergreen Place in Waitsfield, (down the hall from the Mad River Valley Food Shelf) on ONE of the following dates to choose a couple of toys for your children:
Tuesday, Dec 13th, 9:00am-12:00 noon, Thursday Dec 15th, 10:00-am-12:00 noon, Tuesday Dec 20th, 9:00-12:00 noon, and Thursday Dec 22from 10:00-12:00 noon.

Mrs. Claus is coming to the Moretown Library!     Join Mrs. Claus at the Moretown Library for a special holiday story time Thursday, December 15th, 6-7:30pm!  Enjoy hot cocoa, cookies and songs. Bring your letters to Santa for her to deliver, too.  Free for all ages, pajamas encouraged.  Call 496-9728 or email moretownlibrary@gmail.com to reserve your spot.

KIDS ACT presents The Lights of Jingle Bell Hill, Saturday, December 17, 4pm, at the Valley Players.  All are welcome.  There is not an admission fee.

Bus Service      Seasonal bus service in the Mad River Valley starts on Saturday, December 10th! There will be a new bus stop at the Visitor’s Center (General Wait House) next to Waitsfield Elementary that you can use to get around town or up to the mountain. The Valley Floor route operates on the weekends from 12/10-12/18 and daily service begins on 12/24 through April 2nd hourly from 7am to 6pm.

Flatbread Pizza Sales Continue

The Moretown Elementary School PTN is happy to 

announce we are selling more 

Flatbread pizzas prior to the holiday break. 

  

We will be selling at the school on 

Friday, December 16th from 2:30 - 5:00

(more days are possible) 

Funds raised will be used 

to support the 2017 Ski Program!  

Pizzas are $12.00 each.

Moretown School Families (second posting)

As you may be aware,  the Moretown School budget is being discussed and developed at the newly formed Harwood Union Unified School Board which meets at Harwood Union 6pm on Wednesday evenings. Meetings can be viewed on Mad River TV (web available). At this point in the budget process there are no indications of any significant changes or reductions as it relates to the Moretown School. Budget updates will be sent via our Friday school updates.

Artisans' Fair - Flatbread Sale 

The Moretown Elementary School PTN has an exciting fundraising opportunity.  We are teaming up with American Flatbread (our second year) to sell frozen pizzas at the Dec 10th Artisans' Fair hosted at the school.  Funds raised will be used to support the 2017 Ski Program!   We have 600 pizzas to sell... come out to support our school.

Eddie Merma Shares Game
Game inventor Eddie Merma will be at the Joslin Library Saturday, December 10th from 2 -4 sharing his game Isla del Sol. Based on the island in Lake Titicaca bordering Peru and Bolivia,Isla del Sol is a fun and educational game of strategy in which players navigate the land and surrounding waters in search of sun rays and other tools and resources to sustain their journey. Ages 7 and up. Call the library (496-4205) for more information or to reserve a spot.

Open House and Rapid Review at the Joslin Memorial Library   Reviews of the best books of 2016 will take place December 5th, 4-6pm, at the Joslin Memorial Library.  Genres and Reviewers include: Fiction with Joy Worland, Non-fiction with Meredith Jacoby, Middle Grades with Eric Mongeon, Picture books with Lisa Italiano, and Poetry with Jason Butler.  Refreshments will be provided included Gracie's Tamales.

Fencing Instruction Continues     Students grades 5-12 and adults can join fencing instruction at Waitsfield School, Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00, November 30 - February 1, 2017.  Learn basic fencing or refine your current skills.  Cost is $25 for students and $120 for all others.  Space is limited so register at https://sites.google.com/site/midvtfencing/home.  If you would like more information call Keith Puffer(Digger) at 802-989-8014.

Good Beginnings of Central Vermont     Any family with a new baby an use a helping hand. Good Beginnings matches a trained home visitor with your family to offer resources, relief and hope during the first three months. Our home visitors help care for older children, do light household help and respite for both baby and parents. There is no charge for these services and everyone is eligible.  For more information call 802-595-7953.
