Keeping a sick child home . . .
Deciding when to keep a sick child home from school is not always easy. It’s important for children to attend school and for some parents, staying home means missing work. But when a child is truly sick, they need to be kept home in the care of an adult to get well and to prevent spreading illness to others.
Here are some guidelines:
- She/he has a temperature of 100 degree Fahrenheit or above. Your child should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine (Tylenol/Advil) before returning school.
- S/he has vomited or has diarrhea. A single episode of vomiting could be brought on by a number of things – nerves, too much bouncing around. But if the vomiting is accompanied by other symptoms (fever, sore throat, lethargy), your child should be kept home.
- If started on an antibiotic, treatment should be underway for 24 hours before your child can return to school.
- S/he has a rash of unknown origin. A rash may be one of the first signs of a contagious childhood illness. Please have your medical provider diagnose, and offer guidelines, before sending your child to school.
These are only brief guidelines. As the parent, you know your child best and should feel confident using your good judgment. Most childhood illnesses are over soon and are no cause for worry. But if the symptoms are severe or persist for more than 24 hours, you should consult your medical care provider. Please contact me at school if you should have any questions regarding a specific condition. Thanks for your help with keeping ALL our children healthy.
Halloween Party Announcement
The PTN is busy planning out our activities and fundraisers for the year! We will be hosting some of our regular events and adding a few new things this year.
Our first event will be the annual Halloween Party on Halloween night Tuesday 10/31! We will have a NEW LOCATION this year in the Moretown Elementary School Multi-Purpose room (aka cafeteria). There will be games and activities for the kiddos and a safe place to start and end your trick-or-treating from. To make this event a success we need your help! Even just a 1/2hour of your time will help make this event the best it can be for our children. Click the following link for a Sign Up Genius with more details.
Schedule:
Games and Non-Scary Costume: 4:30-5:00pm
Games and Scary Costumes: 5:00-6pm
Trick-or-Treating in the village throughout the evening.
A BIG THANKS to our village residents for their support of this community event and a safe trick-or-treating environment for our children.
Mark your calendar for our Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, November 18th! It’s guaranteed to be the best breakfast in town!
Have you thought about joining the PTN but just don’t feel like you have the time? We understand and we want you to know there are lots of ways you can help. There are options!
• We would, of course, LOVE to have you as part of the regular committee that meets once a month and helps with planning and organizing our activities.
• You can also help with a single event! If you love Halloween or baking or cooking or holiday decorating then the single event/fundraiser volunteer option might be for you! You can help with event planning or just 1 hour on the day of the event. In this case, when the event is over, you’re done!
• If you only have a 1/2 hour here or there or you can pick up supplies while you’re out shopping for your family we’d need your help too! All of our events/activities need supplies and helpers for one-off tasks and many hands make light work, right? Just check out the Sign-Up Genius links when you see them and search for those quick one or two things that might fit your schedule/capacity.
Whatever level of support you are able to provide, including bringing your children to events and purchasing items during our fundraisers we are grateful for your help and we THANK YOU for all that you do.
