Shoes for Children in Uganda When you are Spring Cleaning.... please consider donating your gently used, lightweight, sturdy summer shoes (preferably crocs or something similarly sturdy and lightweight) to Malayaka House, an orphan home in Entebbe, Uganda, currently serving 45 children from newborn to late teens. All sizes are needed but mostly those that will fit school age children. Thank you in advance for your help. As you can imagine, with 45 kids and summer temperatures all year long, they go through a lot of shoes! Please send your donations in with your child by April 26th and give to Mrs. Baker– she spent February break volunteering at Malayaka House. There are 11 students going on a trip in May from Champlain College – so let's make sure that they are loaded up with shoes!
Mad Mountaineers: April Break Adventure Mad Mountaineers is an outdoor-based youth program that teaches kids how to be comfortable in nature, 'on the mountain' specifically. The program commences with building a base camp, and teaches exploring, tracking, foraging, navigating, survival skills, safety, and a respect for the mountain habitat. Kids will build, hike, identify animal tracks and movements, learn about weather patterns, forage for food, hear from guest instructors, practice safety and survival skills, and more. The program is offered to two age groups; ages 7 to 9 and ages 10 to 12. Our first school-break camp will run from April 18 - April 22. The cost for week-long camps is $275 per child. We will provide fresh water, trail mix, and a healthy snack (such as fresh fruit) every day. During extremely bad weather, we will have educational, indoor alternatives. The Mad Mountaineers program is located in Granville, Vermont. As this is a hike for some people, we will offer morning pick up and afternoon drop off at the Information Booth on Route 100 in Warren (across from Hostel Tevere). Morning pick up is at 8:30 and afternoon drop off is at 4:30. Extended care is available at our Granville location if required. The Mad Mountaineers program is run by Jesse Carst. Jesse has years of experience working with children of all ages as a coach, behavior interventionist, paraeducator, and outdoor-learning instructor. Jesse has worked with children of diverse backgrounds, including those with emotional and behavioral challenges, both here in Vermont and while living and working in Entebbe, Uganda. Space is limited. Contact us today at madmountaineersvt@gmail.com for more information, or to enroll your child. The April school-break session will fill up fast. KidsACT Summer Musical Theater Camps, at the Valley Players Theater, Rt. 100, Waitsfield. SESSION 1: For students entering grades 1-3, July 25-29, 9 am -12 pm. Free performance Friday, July 29 at 5 pm.
Tuition - $125 ($100 if registered and paid by May 1) Theater games, singing, acting, and dance movement will all come together to perform the short musical play "Wing It!"
The story: The baby birds are getting bigger and it's time for them to leave the nest and try to fly. But not this little batch of nesters! They have decided they like their snug little nest and all of the amenities it offers. Why leave home when it's so nice and safe right here? Through the course of this musical, all of the other birds - including rapping raptors, humming hummingbirds, honking geese and more - will work to convince the babies that eventually everyone has to try to fly and make it on their own. And when you do, you might just soar! This charming 25-minute musical features five original songs and easy-to-learn rhyming dialog.
