Hello Moretown School Families

Our school concert is scheduled for May 25th at 6 p.m. You will hear the 4th through 6th grade instrumentalists play as a band, as well as a couple of short selections from Kindergarten, 1st through 3rd grade, and 4th through 6th grade, in those groupings.

The entire performance will be short and sweet, anticipated to under an hour, and it would be wonderful for all of our K- 6th grade students to be present.

Families should plan to arrive by 5:45

Please be in touch with any questions you may have!

And the winners are…
Children all over the state got a chance to vote for their favorite books from the Red Clover and Dorothy Canfield Fisher book lists. These student-choice book programs promote reading and discussions of some of the very best in children’s literature while offering readers a wonderful array of literature.
This year the Red Clover Book Award goes to “Shh! We have a Plan” by Chris Haughton. This is the story of four friends on a quiet adventure in the woods looking to trap a beautiful bird. Plans to capture the bird repeatedly fail until the smallest of the friends has a much better idea. The story is simple and the illustrations are bold making it a wonderful book to read and read again.  The winner of the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award goes to “El Deafo” by Cece Bell. This graphic novel and autobiography tells the story of the author’s loss of hearing at a young age and her path to realizing that “Our differences are our superpowers."

Project Harmony Seeking Host Families      PH International is seeking host families for university students from Russia ages 18-20 interested in environmental sustainability.  These students will be visiting Vermont through PH International’s Russian Youth Environmental (RYEP) Program. This program is designed to help Russian youth develop a sense of civic responsibility through workshops, seminars, site visits and activities focusing on the primary themes of leadership development, community engagement, with a focus on environmental sustainability.  Participants will spend a total of four weeks in the U.S. including a week at the Environmental Sustainability Institute at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, two weeks in Vermont attending a one-week Youth Leadership Academy and participation in community service projects, followed by a cultural visit to Washington, D.C.
Youth participants will be placed in homes during their time in Vermont to learn about American culture and family life.  Host families are asked to provide a comfortable and clean place to sleep, breakfast and dinner, minimal transportation to centralized pick-up and drop-off locations and some weekend activities. We are currently recruiting interested host families for July 2-20th and/or August 13-31st or a portion of the participant’s stay during these dates. PH International is a Vermont-based, international, non-governmental organization located in Waitsfield.  With 30+ years of experience, PH works from offices across Eurasia to support civic society development through education, technology, and cross-cultural engagement.  This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.
