School Choice in HUUSD 2017-2018
Have you completed your school choice survey?  Regardless of if you're interested in school choice or not, please take a few moments to complete this survey-- your response helps our school board understand how to plan around this topic for the coming year.  It is as important for us to know that you're NOT interested as to know that you are. Thank you!! Please remember that you are asked to complete a survey for EACH of your children. The survey can be found here:

REMINDER
Feedback regarding recent conferences

Thank you for your recent participation in our 2016 fall conferences.   In order to help us improve our process of engaging students in this new conference format we need your feedback to help guide our work.   The student conference purpose was to provide a focused opportunity for dialogue around student strengths and growth opportunities as a learner.   Engaging students with others in the design and assessment of their educational experiences is an essential  goal of improving educational outcomes and developing successful life long learners.
Please click on the following link to take our short survey about the conferences.

Toy Swap @ Moretown Memorial Library Friday November 18th-Friday, December 2nd   This year save time, money and the planet by finding a new toy for your little one while clearing out some clutter; and all just in time for the holidays. Bring like new/gently used toys or books for children ages 0-3 to the library no later than Saturday, 11/19 at 4pm.  Then, shop at your convenience for family or friends any time the library is open until Friday, 12/2.
Please:   No clothing or very large toys--we don’t have the space!
Only bring like new or gently used toys/books that you would consider taking home.
Take only as much as you bring in.
International Game Day Saturday, November 19th1-4pm     Moretown Memorial Library will join over a thousand libraries around the world for the ninth annual celebration of gaming in libraries. We will have food and a variety of games on hand to play, or bring your own to share! For more information on International Games Day please visit the International Games Day blog http://igd.ala.org/.
BKL Parents, Coaches and Friends       With stick season and daylight savings under our belts (and first taste of snow!) signals that it is now time to register for the upcoming BKL season!  We are happy to report reduced rates for registration this year reflecting that we have a pretty sizable amount of ski gear on hand (and reflecting a less than stellar 2015/16 ski season). Registration and payments are due by November 30th.  Please contact Chris Badger at csbadger@gmail.com for forms and more information.

Harwood Union Middle School Production of Godspell        There are two showings on November 19th at 2pm and 5pm with a $5 admission fee at Harwood Union.

Winter Apparel Donations Requested     The Harwood Peace Alliance is working with The Association of Africans Living in Vermont.  We are looking for winter apparel of all sizes such as socks, fleeces, boots, snow pants, hats, mittens, and coats to provide to the immigrant individuals and families in Vermont.  In addition, we will be collecting donations of yarn so the refugees will be able to knit their own hats and mittens.  There will be a box outside of WES from 11/16-12/2.  Please contact Rachel Potts (protest@wwsu.org) for questions or more information.  We greatly appreciate your support!

Interactive Author Talk and Writing Workshop       On Saturday November 19th at 10 AM the Young Writers Project will present an Interactive Author Talk and Writing Workshop with Vermont author Doug Wilhelm  (http://www.the-revealers.com/). The talk will be streamed live from the Fletcher Free Library in Burlington to six libraries around the state, including the Joslin Memorial Library in Waitsfield. This workshop is free and open to all ages, with grades 6-10 the target audience.
Doug will take the participants through the three stages of his writing process--what he calls the "three secrets." The session will start with a fun, active brainstorm session, where everyone can experiment with their own favorite types of brainstorming/prewriting. After getting ideas going, there will be a drafting stage, where participants will write a rapid-fire draft of their story. Finally, they'll complete a revising/editing stage, where writers will do a two-minute free write around the topic of what could be changed about their draft to help their reader understand more.
Participants will be able to share what they've done and answer/ask questions throughout the workshop. It should be very interactive and fast-paced. Participants will come out of it with a great start to a story that they can keep working on, and post on youngwritersproject.org for potential publication.
To participate, arrive at the Joslin Memorial Library, 4391 Main Street, Waitsfield, in time to begin writing at 10. Bring writing materials (paper and pen or electronic). Send questions to Joy Worland at programs@joslinmemoriallibrary.com or call 496-4205.

Waterbury Recreation Department Camps for Kids     Waterbury Recreation Department is adding 3 Vacation Camps. The first one is Dec 27 to Dec 30, the second one is Feb. 27 to Mar. 3 and the last one is Apr. 17 to Apr. 21. Each camp is $175 per child/non resident with a maximum of 30 kids.
Also we are hosting a kids day out on Dec. 10 from 1 to 6pm. This is to give parents time to finish getting ready for the holidays and give the chance for the kids to play, do crafts and meet new friends. It is $25 per child/non resident and is a limited space of 25 kids.
All of these programs are going to be held at the Recreation Building in Waterbury and staffed by the well trained Day Camp Staff. For more information go to our Town website www.waterburyvt.com or call Deb Fowler at 802-244-7174.
