Moretown School Update, March 23, 2018

EPIC ENDING TO A GREAT SEASON!

The PTN would like to send a HUGE shout out to our Winter Sports Program volunteers.  Without their help, we couldn't have enjoyed so many beautiful days in the snow.  We had a great season, saw a lot of progression, and the kids had a great time on the mountain.  We would also like to give special recognition to Pam Nelson, whose tireless effort, communication, and positivity made it such an incredible success! caption

Mad Valley Runners 2018 Open to boys and girls grades 3-6: Once again we look forward to helping your kids develop/maintain a love of running.  The pure joy  seen in the face of a  child as they race around the playground with their friends is something we should never lose. We've  seen that same joy in people of all ages as they pursue this sport for a lifetime.
We hope you and your kids will join us on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30- 4:00 for some  fun runs on the Mad River Path trails! Last year 17 students and 5 adults enjoyed our program. Having adult running partners for the kids is essential for the program's success. No experience necessary! Happy runners come in all shapes, sizes and speeds so don't hold back from offering your assistance please. We encourage the kids to run at a pace that is comfortable for them, take walk breaks if needed, and support their friends as they do the same.  As their strength and endurance grows they find pleasure in pushing their own limits a bit. Our program is intended for kids that actually want to run during our allotted time. We know that picking flowers, hunting for stones and just hanging out with friends is fun. They are  great ways to spend our leisure time but our time together is intended for running. We will include, long runs, tag games and for those who wish, sprint races.  We are also conscious of hot weather limitations and make room for garden hose / sprinkler fun and ice cream breaks when needed. If this appeals to your child please encourage them to sign up. Our runs will begin as weather and volunteer support allows, usually in early April. Our culminating event is 2 mile Fun Run at Blueberry Lake in May where  our pizza and ice cream feast occurs. Every student runner also receives our unique award of achievement, the "Woodal", after finishing the 2 mile course. There is no cost to participate. Registration forms will be available soon. If you and your children wish to order our Club's running shirt please note the  order form will be included with the Registration form. We provide the shirts at cost, usually $10, depending on quantities ordered.
Please reach out to Joe Robinson jrobinson@wwsu.org or Clayton Wetzel cwetzel@wwsu.org with questions or your offer to run with us.

Harwood Union Music Department is thrilled to be hosting the Hofstra Chamber Choir during their spring concert tour. They will be performing at the Waterbury UCC on Friday, March 23rd at 7:30pm. This choir from Hofstra University in New York provides an excellent display of artistry through diverse programming of choral works. They are the smallest and most select of Hofstra's choral ensembles and is comprised of some of the best singers at the University both in and out of the music department. Their director, David Fryling, is a renowned conductor who recently served as President of ACDA's Eastern Division, and won the American Prize in Conducting in 2 categories: Community Chorus and Colleges & Universities. It is truly an honor to have Dr. Fryling and the Hofstra Chamber Choir join us here in Vermont! And, as if this was not exciting enough, Harwood's own chamber choir, "I Cantori" will be performing with them that night after attending a workshop with Dr. Fryling in the afternoon.  There is a $5 suggested donation to cover costs. Any remaining proceeds will go to the Harwood Music Scholarship Fund which supports our students with financial needs so they can have equal access to our private lesson program.

HELP NEEDED!     Please help us to house these great collegiate singers. We need host families for one overnight (Friday only). If you have space available (an air mattress will do), please fill out the form here: https://goo.gl/forms/gX4AC7mNYVJupEBu1
This will allow us keep track of everyone who volunteers.
Thank you in advance for your help with this truly special event.
