PESurvivor Overview:
Each class has been split into two teams. Essentially the entire school is split into two teams! Over the course of the month of February, classes will be participating in a series of challenges in PE and possible other areas of the school as well. As teams complete or win challenges, they can earn points for their team. This is different than typical Survivor since we will not be voting out anybody and nobody will win $1,000,000 ha ha. I’ll be explaining all of this info with students but here it is for you if you have questions or would like to get involved in some way (big or small).
Purpose:
There are a few reasons I wanted to do Survivor at Moretown. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and I finally feel prepared to give it a try. Sportsmanship and cooperation are the two main skills that students will be working on this month. As students are competing, these two skills will be the most important focus.

School Counselor's Corner
Working with our Curriculum Director, Shannon Lessley, I applied for and was awarded a grant to purchase equipment for Moretown Elementary School’s LEAD - LEGO Engineering and Applied Design Program.
The goal of LEAD is to provide students with additional opportunities to develop holistic skills, such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking through engaging learning experiences. Beginning in preschool, students will use BeeBots and the LEGO Learning System to learn and practice design and computer science skills. As a culminating experience, sixth graders will have the option to participate in the FIRST LEGO League.
In addition to being aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Common Core standards, LEAD will have a strong foundation of social-emotional learning, aligned with the CASEL Framework. Students will practice skills integral to lifelong learning and healthy social-emotional development, including self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills and decision making. Students will also learn about a growth mindset and how it relates to learning and the core stances: empathy, flexibility, persistence, resilience and optimism.
LEAD will be incorporated into the existing wellness program and schedule, facilitated by our School Counselor, Jason Stevenson.
Notes from the Health Office If you want to have the ability for your child to be tested for COVID at school, please go to the following link and sign up for Response Testing. Remember, they can be tested if they have any symptoms and they will then need to go home.

Community News/Opportunities
Please note that the opportunities/events listed below are not specifically endorsed or screened by school staff. As always, families should use their own standards and review processes to determine appropriate activities.
Visit the library this week at Town Hall and create some cards to give the special people in your life! We will have all of the necessary supplies of fancy paper, markers and bedazzlements, you just need to bring your inspiration.
Card making for all ages will be available anytime this Thursday 2-6pm and Saturday 10am-2pm along with plenty of love themed books, DVD's and puzzles for check out.
Adult and kids' KN95 masks are now available at the Mad River Valley Libraries as well as the Mad River Valley Community Pantry, thanks to a generous grant from the Mad River Valley Rotary Club.
The library will distribute masks two adult/one child masks per person with guidance on how to store and prolong usage. Our thanks to the Valley Reporter for initiating this campaign to make high-quality masks accessible to more members of our community.
MAD RIVER VALLEY YOUTH LACROSSE
Registration is now open for the 2022 Spring Lacrosse Season!!

Mad River Valley Youth Lacrosse will offer both girls and boys lacrosse again this year. There are four separate grade levels including k-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th and 7th-8th. Equipment can be provided for k-4th grade players as supplies allow. First timers are welcome at every level.
Player space is open on a first-come, first-serve basis. Team assignments will be provided before March 10, 2022. Mad River Youth Lacrosse encourages athletes who might play other spring sports to play lacrosse also. Our season is short and we try our best to accommodate other spring sports schedules.
Official outdoor practices are held at Mad River Park, beginning in Mid April, typically starting after spring break and depending on the field conditions of Mad River Park. Games will be held from the first week of May through mid June.
Greater Burlington YMCA has spots for February vacation camp at Brookside School.

Worldwide, 62 million girls are out of school. Harwood Union High School She’s the First is running a raffle to raise money to send girls to school who are the first in their families to attend high school in Ethiopia and Uganda. We are gathering prizes from many amazing local restaurants and businesses! Some prizes include a GoPro, day tickets to Mad River Glen, artwork, and gift certificates to local businesses. Tickets are $5 a piece, or a book of 5 for $20. To purchase a ticket, please email shesthefirsthu@gmail.com with your name, email, phone number, mailing address, and preferred method of payment. Payment can be accepted through Venmo (@Kathryn-Youngdahl) or cash and checks (payable to HUHS She’s The First) can be mailed to Kate Stauss at Harwood Union High School, 458 VT RTE 100 Moretown, VT 05660. The raffle drawing will be over Zoom on March 8th (International Women’s Day), along with a showing of a short film. An email with the zoom link will be sent to you after you purchase a ticket (you do not need to be present to win a prize).
