Bobcat Bulletin March 4, 2022

School News:

Our school is participating in Winter Walk to School day on Wednesday March 9th ! We are excited to walk to school together, see our community in a new light AND have some fun outside in the winter!  Giving children opportunities for physical activity before school gets their bodies and minds ready to learn.

  • Plan for the day: We will be meeting as a community at the Moretown General Store at 7:15 am on Wednesday March 9th. You can walk with your child or drop them off with walking volunteers. Parking is limited. You can also bike or walk directly from your house.

  • We will be giving out hot chocolate and stickers at the entrance to the school for participants.

  • Please be sure to dress your child warmly.  Your child should be prepared to walk with us.  Here are some tips to make our winter walk as successful and fun as possible!

    •  Wear a warm hat and mittens (wool is always nice, but any warm hat and mittens are fine)

      • On really cold days, you can stay warm by wearing a scarf or balaclava over their face and mouth

    • Wear warm, waterproof boots

    • Wear a warm, windproof coat

    • Bright and light colors are best to wear in the winter.  Something reflective is even better!

    • Bring an extra pair of socks and mittens, in case your child gets wet.

  • We’d love to have you join us!  Spending time outside with your child is a lot of fun, and this is a great way to have an excuse to explore your neighborhood together.  Plus, physical activity doesn’t just help your child concentrate better in school--it’ll set you up for a boost of energy and focus for the rest of your day as well.

  • When we would cancel: If the weather is under 0 degrees, we will cancel

Sincerely,

Mandy

Dear Parents and Families:

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

After missing out on many beloved traditions, our spring Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from March 14- March 18 in MES Library 7:30 am - 3:00 pm

Our Book Fair offers eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

Please note that the opportunities/events listed below are not specifically endorsed or screened by school staff. As always, families should use their own standards and review processes to determine appropriate activities.

Hannah's House is sponsoring "Conscious Circles" with Suzy Blais of Green Mountain Conscious Parenting. If you are wanting to feel differently on the inside, speak differently, and act differently with your family this space is for you.  Do you wish you could feel calm, comfortable and more connected so you can show up as the parent you daydream of? This is a safe space for those wanting to connect with other parents and learn more about coping with the challenges, parent-guilt, shame and frustration that comes with parenting. If you are wanting to become more clear and connected to your children these circles are for you. Suzy Blais will answer your questions, provide insight on Social Emotional Development, share tools and tips for this journey of parenting. There will be a different topic covered each Wednesday along with time for dialogue and peer support. There is no cost; pre-registration is required: cjrivers@madriver.com or 802-496-9715.

Topics we'll cover:
  • How to become more mindful, aware and conscious of our inner Social Emotional Climate.
  • How to create coping strategies that will help us in the moment and also model this for our children.
  • Are you parenting from old conditioned beliefs and generational patterns? Holding space for our children's emotions is difficult if we don't hold space for our own.
  • Grow up! Let's reparent ourselves. We can now meet our own needs, think for ourselves, trust our own intuition and judgements rather than let others think and do this for us.

Farm and River Camps this Summer in Moretown
Living Tree Alliance's camps immerse children in the life of our homestead, rivers and forests through farming, cooking, making, swimming and forest and field games
Every morning we rotate through stations of cooking, crafts and farming putting our hands together to grow food for the food bank and enjoy play in our natural playground and tree houses.
In the afternoon, we explore the forest through play, fort building and of course spend ample time splashing in the Mad River and Dowsville Creek. Our property has a private swimming beach on the river and wonderful clay deposits for endless body painting, building and exploration.  Join us for some old fashioned fun offered for two weeks this summer.
New this year: check out RootedYouth  our middle school leadership program full of building, biking and group challenges for those tweens ready to increase their impact in the world.
We also offer a spring vacation camp, a perfect time to explore the new growth of the farm: seedlings, baby birds and lambs on the farm
Scholarships available.
