Flooding Update at the Moretown School

Moretown School Flooding Event

Hello Moretown School Community,

Last night at 3:20am our boiler shutdown alarm informed us that we had an issue at the school.  Upon arrival we discovered that portions of the school building were flooded (approx 1 - 2 inches of water) due to a blocked culvert/drain on the south side of the building.  The culvert was checked yesterday and working well at the end of the day leading us to believe the issue occurred during a heavy rain event late last night.  

The heavy rain/ice event caused flooding in 7 of our 11 classrooms and the boiler system needs to be repaired.  All flooded areas of the school will be dried and cleaned and steps will be taken to make sure that our school is safe and ready for our students return to school next week.   

We have a professional cleaning and repair crew working to address the flooding damage.    We will let our community know if there is a need for volunteers to help with any of of the clean-up over the next couple of days.   This flooding event is not similar in scope to the flooding event that occurred during Irene, however, it is similar in that clean-up process looks and feels the same.

We will provide the Moretown School Community with the updates on the clean-up progress as we get them.
