Moretown School Update August 31, 2018

Greetings families and community,

We had an awesome fist week of school!  I have a lot to share, but most of all I want to thank all of you for sharing your children with us.  The very best part of my week was Friday morning when I was greeting students at the front door.  I was celebrating the fact that it was Friday as it was a full and wonderful week.  One student looked at me and replied, "I wish it was Tuesday."  Admittedly I was surprised, so I asked why.  She responded, "It went by so fast, I just want to do it again."  Now there's a kid who loves it here as much as I do... and luckily for her and me, we get to do it all again next week.

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend, enjoying the warm weather, time with each other and all that the community has to offer.

Library news from The Book M0nster

    Greetings Parents, Guardians and Families,

I am The Book M0nster. I help David (the new Teacher Librarian) in the library. Every now and again I will be passing along information. In that vein…

Do you like warm, cozy, comfortable spaces? How about music and order or numbers and letters? Or better yet books, glorious books! If so we have an amazing opportunity for you.

Today we are looking for volunteers who would like to help in the library. As one of the heart centers of the school it is important that we keep materials up to date and out on the shelves as quickly as possible. By doing this we can get more books and materials into the hands of kids quickly. Since David will be in and out of the library teaching classes one of the most helpful supports would be to have a few people who would like to be responsible for shelving books and keeping order in the library. You would be trained in how to do this and perhaps even be bribed with chocolate.

If this is an opportunity you would like to take advantage of please email David or The Book Monster at dgreen-leibovitz@wwsu.org Training will be held in the Moretown School Library on Thursday September 13th from 8:00am-9:00am (it will most likely not take the whole time) and again in the afternoon from 2:30pm-3:30pm. If you are interested but neither of these times work for you please contact us and we will work something else out.

Lastly, if you have never volunteered before at the Moretown School there is a process you need to go through at the district office (background check and fingerprints). While this might be more time consuming or seem silly to you please know that the library and the school as a whole is committed to the social, emotional, academic and physical safety of the kids which is why this process is in place. You can contact Laura Titus at the district office at 803-583-7953.

    Have a fantastic day,
    David and The Book M0nster

  • All that Jazz:
Hello 4th grade Parents!

This year your child can choose to play a band instrument in school. Our district has a great band program that continues through 12th grade, and I strongly encourage all students to participate in this unique learning opportunity!
The instruments we offer at the elementary level are: ClarinetClarinetFlute, FluteTrumpetTrumpetTromboneTromboneBaritone HornBaritone Horn (or euphonium) and Mallet PercussionMallet Percussion. Please click on the links above to watch examples of each with your child to help them make an informed choice.
Ellis Music is hosting an "Instrument Night" for families of all Valley schools on Monday, September 10th at 6 p.m. at the Waitsfield Elementary School. At this event, Ellis will be able to answer your questions and help you place an order for instrument rentals. You can also complete a rental agreement online and Ellis will bring your instrument to this event for you to pick up. Detailed rental information is available on the Ellis Music website by clicking the link above.
beyond the school day. Students will receive weekly instruction during the week (at no cost) and they are expected to maintain a consistent practice routine at home. I recommend a minimum frequency of three to five practice sessions per week to start.
I'm looking forward to a great year of instrumental learning!
Please be in touch with your questions.
