School Notes:

School Picture Day is Monday! Please return order forms on Monday if you haven’t yet.

Open House is Wednesday this week.  The school will be open from 5:30-7:00 for open house.  Please see your child’s teacher’s correspondence about times in their class for the evening.

6th Grade Trip Fundraiser Spaghetti dinner is scheduled for 4:30-5:30 in the all purpose room.  Please come join us for dinner before Open House.  $6 per individual or $25 per family.

So many things going on in kindergarten, check it out.

THANK YOU to those of you who have submitted your students’ forms online. We now have over 25% participation!  

If you have not submitted your students’ forms yet, please take a few minutes to do so; we need to ensure we have the most thorough, up-to-date student information and parent/guardian contact information.

• Health Headlines:

• Hello Parents,
  This is just a reminder that cough drops sent in from home, need to kept in the nurse's office for students PreK-grade 2. In a large group of younger children, something so innocent, as you know, can become a choking hazard. 
  When a student in these grades needs a cough drop, teachers know to send the student with a book, while they have the cough drop in a quiet supervised setting. We prefer to be proactive rather than have to be reactive. :)
  We do have generic cough drops available in the Health Office, but if you prefer to send your child with a special brand, please ask them to drop them off in the Main Office. Their name will be placed on the package and placed with the others in the locked cabinet in the Health Office for when they are needed.

Halloween

With October comin’ in hot, we are of course gearing up for our annual Halloween Party and village treat or treating.  The candy generously distributed by our village homes is provided by donation from many of our community members.  To that end, we would like to begin accepting donations on October 1^st to be prepared to distribute to our town participants the week before Halloween (starting on the 22^nd). [Please contact Mandy Couturier if you do not intend to be included in the village treat distribution].   The annual Halloween party will be on Wednesday, October 31^st at the Moretown School. 

PTO News

Thanks to all who attended the September PTO meeting and for those who could not make it (we understand hectic schedules) here’s a quick update.

ECO/Winter Sports clothing drive:  Kicking off October 3^rd at the open house we will begin a winter sports clothing drive.  This is intended to meet certain warm/dry clothing needs which arise from the ECO and Winter Sports Programs.  We ask that as you transition into fall and winter items at home that you consider donating gently used  items your children might have outgrown.  Items needed are: waterproof pants (snow and rain), waterproof gloves and mittens, waterproof boots (winter and otherwise), wool blend socks and waterproof jackets.  Please bring items to the Open House on October 3^rd to the PTO table and look for a future announcement on additional drop sites and times.

Halloween: The Halloween party is on for October 31^st at Moretown School.  The party will begin at 5:30 to be followed by trick or treating in the village.  If you’d like to contribute to treats to provide to the villagers please drop them at the Main Office in the treats for donation box beginning October 1^st.  If you’d like to help with the party please email the PTO at moretownpto@gmail.com

PTO Announcements:  We recognize that not everyone can attend every meeting (or even any) but perhaps would like to be involved in other ways.  In a few weeks please begin to look for announcements and information from the PTO on the “PTO Announcement” board which will be located just inside the front doors of the school.  Additionally, we’ll be sending out a survey to glean some feedback from your favorite or events/fundraisers, please look for that in the coming weeks as well.   Please email the PTO at any time if you have any questions  moretownpto@gmail.com.

Please note that the opportunities/events listed below are not specifically endorsed or screened by school staff. As always, families should use their own standards and review processes to determine appropriate activities.

Mad River Park & Path Celebration: October 4, 5-7pm, rain or shine, all are welcome.  There will be brief remarks and dedication at 5:15pm, followed by a path walk, pick up games and light refreshments.Middle School Volleyball Club for boys and girls grades 5-8 will now meet on Sundays (not Tuesdays) from 5-6:30, at Crossett Brook Middle School Gym, every Sunday from 9/16-10/28. Call Donna Culver at Crossett Brook Middle School for more information(244-6100).

Yoga, Mindfulness and Healthy Stress Management classes Girls in grades 5-8  are invited to dive into the chakra system throughout the school year.  Each class will be themed around a chakra. All classes will take place at Valley Glow Yoga with Mindy Pistacchio.  Email Mindy for dates of all 7 studio classes and more information at mindy.pistacchio@gmail.com.

MAD DASH Registration is now open: The 23rd annual Mad Dash will take place on Oct. 7th, 10:00am, with sign in beginning at 8:30. There will be a free kids' run as well. Register online at www.madriverpath.com. To volunteer, contact Liz at dash@madriver.com
