What an amazing week of taking risks, experiencing joy and loving community! |

Hello Moretown!
As you may have heard (or seen on the district site) COVID is still present in our community. We suggest testing your child if they may have been exposed or are showing symptoms. More information on how and when to test can be found on the HUUSD website:
Moretown School students spend a lot of time outside in good weather. To decrease their risk of sunburn and skin cancer, apply sunscreen to areas of their skin that will be exposed to the sun BEFORE they leave for school in the morning. Children should not be carrying sunscreen or any other medication or skin treatment to school in their backpacks. Please let the nurse know if there are medical concerns around sun or heat exposure.
Facts about sunscreen:
SPF. Sunscreens are assigned a sun protection factor (SPF), which is a number that rates how well they block UV rays. Higher numbers indicate more protection. You should use a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher.
A good application of sunscreen before school will last several hours
Lotions or creams are the most effective and safest. Spray on sunscreens may contain chemicals that are harmful to the lungs if inhaled.
Expiration date. Check the sunscreen’s expiration date. Sunscreen without an expiration date has a shelf life of no more than 3 years. Its shelf life is shorter if it has been exposed to high temperatures.
Additional sun protection in the form of hats, light long sleeved shirts and long pants will help protect your child from the sun’s harmful rays.
Community News/Opportunities
Please note that the opportunities/events listed below are not specifically endorsed or screened by school staff. As always, families should use their own standards and review processes to determine appropriate activities.
Living Tree Alliance was honored to host all the 1st and 2nd graders and the NOW afterschool program this year at our sugarbush and bring the students to visit with our chickens and sheep. We host summer camps at our community farm and would love to wander the woods, rivers and fields with your kids. We spend the mornings on the farm growing food for the foodbank and playing games in the pavilion and at our natural playground and the afternoons swimming in the rivers and creeks while exploring the trails and forests in back of Harwood. The August dates of our camp correspond with the week that there is no Neck of the Woods camp.
Rooted Youth Middle School Leadership Camp Rising 7th and 8th July 18 - 22
Recreation takes on many forms, from team sports to a having a favorite sit-spot in the woods or on the river to reflect and relax. This survey is designed by the Moretown Recreation Committee to learn more about how we as individuals in a larger community recreate; what you value, what you use today, and what resources we should build, protect, and strengthen.
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey. Your ideas and concerns will influence our collective future.
